Pocket A Pair For Home - Hearing Protection Program

Time: 7:00 AM

Event Location & Address: Teck Trail Operations

Hosting Organization: Teck Cominco Metals Ltd.

Event Description: HEARING PROTECTION CREW TALK PART OF NAOSH WEEK EVENTS Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent, but with the proper protection it is 100 percent preventable. Hearing protection is a critical aspect of our workplace, yet, more often than not, hearing protection is not something we think about outside of work. These important messages are reflected in the “Pocket a Pair for Home” crew talk that is available as part of Trail Operations’ upcoming North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week events. Exposure to noise is a potential at home and at play. Mowing the lawn, using workshop tools, listening to loud music and shooting firearms all can present a significant hearing hazard. The attached “Off the Job” document produced by WorkSafeBC, lists noise levels for items ranging from home appliances to yard and snow equipment to power tools to children’s toys. The “Pocket a Pair for Home” crew talk information focuses on hearing protection at work and home through a review of the “Off the Job” document. Also, supervisors will be issuing ear plugs, along with a carrying case, which employees are encouraged to take home for personal use. NAOSH Week is recognized from May 3 to 9, 2009 and celebrates the importance of safety and health at work, at home and in the community. Every one going home, safe and healthy everyday.
